Josh Edens is the incumbent Washington County Commissioner representing District 4 and is seeking another term in office. He is currently serving his first term on the Commission.

Outside of county government, Edens is a teacher and athletics coach at Science Hill High School, and serves as a middle school youth pastor at Abounding Grace Baptist Church in Jonesborough. A lifelong Washington County resident, he is a graduate of David Crockett High School and has earned degrees from Tusculum University and Union College. He and his wife, Ashley, have three children.

As a county commissioner, Edens serves on several committees, including Health, Education & Welfare, Public Safety, Purchasing, the Washington County Economic Development Council, and the Water Task Force. His stated goal is to serve the community while continuing a family tradition of public service as a third-generation county commissioner. Eden's voted no on the tax increase and BWXT.

Roger Verran is a Republican candidate for the Washington County Commission representing District 5 in the August 2026 election. He has previously served Washington County through an appointment to the Washington County Regional Planning Commission, where he participated in reviewing land use, development, zoning, and growth-related issues affecting the county.

Verran's experience on the Regional Planning Commission has provided him with insight into the challenges of managing growth while balancing infrastructure needs, property rights, and responsible development. That background offers familiarity with many of the issues regularly considered by the County Commission.

Greg Matherly is the incumbent Washington County Commissioner representing District 6 and is seeking another term in office. He currently serves as Chairman of the Washington County Commission and is serving his eighth term as a commissioner.

Matherly has worked in public safety in Washington County for more than three decades. He currently serves as Director of the Washington County Emergency Communications District (911) and previously served for 24 years as a Washington County Sheriff's deputy. He is a lifelong Washington County resident, attends Boones Creek Baptist Church, and is married to his wife, Erin. They have two children.

As Commission Chairman, Matherly serves on the EMS, Ethics, Employee Compensation & Benefits, and Rules committees, and has chaired several county committees during his tenure. He has identified managing growth, maintaining infrastructure, supporting public safety, and meeting the demands of a growing school system as key issues facing Washington County. Matherly voted no on  BWXT.

Harrison Wexler is a Republican candidate for the Washington County Commission . He is seeking to serve as a representative for residents of his district on the county’s legislative body.

The Washington County Commission is responsible for making decisions that impact county government operations, including approving the county budget, setting priorities for public services, overseeing infrastructure needs, and addressing issues related to growth and long-term planning.

Freddie Malone is a Republican candidate for the Washington County Commission representing District 8. He is currently serving his second term as a Washington County Commissioner.

Malone is a lifelong Washington County resident and a graduate of David Crockett High School. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from East Tennessee State University with a major in finance and minors in real estate and management. He is also a graduate of the Louisiana State University Graduate School of Banking. Professionally, Malone serves as a Senior Vice President and Relationship Manager with HomeTrust Bank.

During his service on the County Commission, Malone has been involved with several committees, including serving as Chairman of the Audit Committee and Rules Committee, as well as Chairman of the Beer Board. He has also served on the Purchasing Committee, Investment Committee, Washington County Regional Planning Commission, Johnson City Development Authority, and other county-related boards and committees.

Malone has identified priorities including managing Washington County’s growth in a responsible manner, maintaining fiscal responsibility in county operations, continuing expansion of public water infrastructure, and improving communication and transparency between county government and citizens.

David Stout is a Republican candidate for the Washington County Commission representing District 9. He was appointed by the Washington County Commission on September 23, 2024, to fill the vacancy created by the passing of Commissioner Suzy Williams, and was subsequently elected by District 9 voters in the November 5, 2024 general election.

Stout is a graduate of Carson-Newman University and the Economic Development Institute at the University of Oklahoma. He retired from United Telephone/Sprint, where he served as a division manager, and previously served for 15 years as Director of Corporate Health Services for Mountain States Health Alliance. He is also a retired Major in the United States Army Reserve after 22 years of service.

A longtime resident of Washington County District 9, Stout has lived in Johnson City with his wife, Mary, for more than 30 years. They have two adult children and six grandchildren.

During his service on the County Commission, Stout has served on several committees and boards, including the Budget Committee, Rules Committee, Employee Compensation & Benefits Committee, Purchasing Committee, Regional Planning Commission, BrightRidge Board, Tri-Cities Airport Authority, and Commerce Industry & Agriculture Committee.

Stout has identified economic development, education, and environmental issues as areas of focus during his service. As a county commissioner, he participates in decisions involving the county budget, property taxes, infrastructure, public services, economic growth, and long-term planning for Washington County.

Annette Buchanan is a Republican candidate for the Washington County Board of Education representing District 1. She currently serves as a member of the Washington County School Board and was elected Chairperson of the Board.

Buchanan has experience serving in local education governance, where school board responsibilities include adopting district policies, approving the annual education budget, hiring and evaluating the director of schools, and maintaining communication with families and the community.

As Board Chair, Buchanan has participated in discussions and decisions affecting Washington County Schools, including issues involving student achievement, school operations, budgeting, teacher and staff support, facilities, and the long-term direction of the school system.

Keith Ervin is a Republican candidate for the Washington County Board of Education representing District 1. He is a current member of the Washington County School Board and has served multiple terms representing the district.

Ervin has been involved in Washington County community affairs through his service on the Board of Education, where members are responsible for establishing school policies, approving budgets, selecting and evaluating the director of schools, and overseeing the direction of the county school system.

Vince Walters is a Republican candidate for the Washington County Board of Education representing District 1. He currently serves as a member of the Washington County School Board and has been involved in local education governance.

As a school board member, Walters participates in decisions affecting Washington County Schools, including policy development, budget oversight, school operations, and long-term planning for the district. The Board of Education is responsible for adopting policies, approving the annual school budget, hiring and evaluating the Director of Schools, and maintaining communication with families and the community.

Walters has served alongside other District 1 board members in addressing issues facing Washington County Schools, including educational priorities, funding decisions, student achievement, facilities, and accountability to taxpayers.

Chad Fleenor is a Republican candidate for the Washington County Board of Education representing District 3. He has served as a member of the Washington County School Board since 2018.

Fleenor is a co-owner of Volunteer Stockyards and brings private-sector business experience to his role in education governance. He is also active in his community through service as a deacon at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

During his time on the Board of Education, Fleenor has participated in decisions involving school policy, budgeting, facilities, student achievement, and district operations. School board members are responsible for setting policy, approving the district budget, hiring and evaluating the Director of Schools, and providing oversight of the county school system.

Fleenor serves alongside other District 3 representatives in addressing issues facing Washington County Schools, including educational priorities, financial stewardship, school safety, workforce needs, and maintaining accountability to students, parents, educators, and taxpayers.

David Hammond is a Republican candidate for the Washington County Board of Education representing District 3. He currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Washington County School Board and has served on the board as a District 3 representative.

Hammond brings experience as a parent, community volunteer, and business owner. He has been actively involved in local schools through PTA/PTO service, including serving as a PTA president. His professional background includes experience in retail jewelry and property management, where he says he gained experience with budgeting and financial management.

During his service on the Board of Education, Hammond has participated in decisions involving school policy, curriculum discussions, safety initiatives, budgeting, and district operations. He has also been involved with school board committees, including curriculum, safety, and textbook selection.

Hammond has identified continued school security upgrades, improving teacher pay to remain competitive with neighboring school districts, student safety, and responsible management of education resources as key issues facing Washington County Schools.

Gregg Huddlestone is a Republican candidate for the Washington County Board of Education representing District 3. He currently serves as a member of the Washington County School Board.

Huddlestone has experience in local education governance through his service on the Board of Education, where members are responsible for establishing school policies, approving budgets, overseeing the Director of Schools, and providing accountability for the operation of the school system.

During his tenure on the board, Huddlestone has participated in discussions and votes involving school operations, policy decisions, curriculum matters, district priorities, and issues affecting students, parents, educators, and taxpayers. Board records show his participation in official board actions and committee-related matters.

Huddlestone has also been involved in discussions regarding state education policy and its impact on Washington County Schools. He has publicly raised concerns regarding the use of public education funds and the expansion of school voucher programs, reflecting his interest in local control and accountability in education funding decisions.
